Chronic insomnia


Insomnia is a sleeping disorder with issues pertaining to the lack of the desired feel. The person will not feel like sleeping over the nighttime for a longer time. Insomniacs behave like night owls; staying active at night and losing the power and strength to take on the daytime. Insomnia has been turning into a greater threat for people born in the past two to three decades. Loss of sleep has turned to be so common among people nowadays with the development of technology and other factors that prevent people to have a perfect early sleep. Insomnia has caused a greater impact in the day to day living of lots of people.

Types of Chronic Insomnia

Chronic Insomnia can be experienced into two types. Primary and Secondary chronic Insomnia

Primary Chronic Insomnia

Primary Prolonged insomnia is not caused to any kind of medications or other conditions. The reason for the primary chronic insomnia is still in research. It is arguably due to the changes in the brain chemical levels excretion.

Secondary Chronic Insomnia

Secondary Chronic Insomnia is caused due to certain conditions or medications. Most primarily Secondary Chronic Insomnia is caused due to depression and stress-related issues. Lifestyle and intake of certain drugs and substances may even result in the condition.

Symptoms of Chronic Insomnia

There are plenty of Symptoms of Chronic Insomnia. The person would be experiencing a vast loss in sleep vibe, loss of entire night sleep or partial loss of sleep by waking up by the night, early waking sensation, overthinking, feeling of tiredness and grumpiness over the day, increase in memory loss and mistakes, Lack of concentration, irritates feel. These can be deemed symptoms of Chronic Insomnia. Insomnia may have drastic effects on the health of a normal human being, sleep is a very vital part of our body’s daily cycle.

Causes of Chronic Insomnia

Chronic Insomnia can be caused as a result of respiratory diseases such as Asthma, Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), Sleep Apnea. There are series of various other medical issues related with insomnia. Cardiovascular disorders, Diabetes, gastroesophageal refluxes, overactive thyroid, fibrositis, pain, urinary incontinence, menopause, depression or stress, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer disease, bipolar disorder may also cause chronic insomnia in people. The presence of these diseases does not mean that insomnia has started. Insomniacs are seen to share these medical conditions in common with sleep deprivation.

Medications causing Chronic Insomnia

Not alone the consumption of certain drugs and substance may result or lead to insomnia but even certain medications can be the factor for it. Anti-depressants, Beta Blocker, Chemo-therapy drugs, pseudoephedrine-containing medications, diuretics, and stimulant laxatives are the medications that result in chronic insomnia. But however, Alcohol and nicotine have a greater share in pushing through a person into insomnia. Illicit Drug consumption may also lead to chronic insomnia. There is even more substance that is not quoted here that may result in the adherent loss of sleep of people. Over-consumption of caffeine throughout the day may result in Insomnia. Coffee is one of the most common factors that cause Insomnia in common people.

Lifestyle shift of People


Over a period of years, technology and work patterns have changed a lot. The lifestyle pattern of a human can be noticed closely to understand the loss of sleep. With the night shift of work practice becoming more common, the sleep pattern of the people takes a shift. Frequent Travels, Laziness or idleness, sleeping during the daytime, routine patterns must be set up for better sleep. A person’s sleeping environment is necessary to help the person with better energetic sleep to carry out the works in the daytime. As the lifestyle of people gets changed drastically with the period of time; healthy habits are finding its way out of the human body.

Treatment for Chronic insomnia

There several methods to treat insomnia both by medication and techniques. Cognitive techniques may help to reduce the stress points, By setting up a routine schedule, stimulus patterns can be controlled for a better sleep pattern, Relaxational techniques such as yoga and exercises help for an increased feel for sleep, Train mind to be in a state of feeling like it can stay awake; cross-actions takes place in common. There are others medications that prove helpful with treating insomnia

Though medications to induce sleep or sleep aids are not recommended to be used for a long time. Daytime Sleepiness, Forgetfulness, other issues may arise because of such factors. Prescription medications such as zaleplon, doxepin, zolpidem, temazepam, eszopiclone, suvorexant, ramelteon helps with treating insomnia. There are sleeping aids even to induce sleep like Benadryl, valerian root, melatonin, sleep tabs etc.… None of is recommended is for longer use to induce sleep.

Nowadays there are even apps which induce a person’s sleep by providing calming and relaxational factor. Sleep is something which should occur naturally or normally. Try the techniques for improved results in sleep. The medications can be consumed only with a doctor’s prescription.
